In July 2008, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) of 2008 (2008) was passed. This Act included a provision that will allow speech-language pathologists (SLPs) in private practice to bill the Medicare program beginning July 1, 2009. Applications for enrollment will be accepted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) starting June 2, 2009.
